Kemetco Research is a private sector integrated science, technology and innovation company. Our Contract Sciences operation provides laboratory analysis and testing, field work, bench scale studies, pilot plant investigations and technology commercialization. The tour will provide an opportunity to see Kemetco’s newly constructed (2015) 20,000 sft R&D facility in Richmond, BC. As well, some of Kemetco’s commercialization projects will be viewed (such as commercialization of a robust ORP sensor (UBC Technology), a lithium ion battery recycling pilot plant, and a hydrometallurgical process pilot plant).


BC Research is part of the NORAM group of companies, which is vertically integrated to provide clients with a unique technology development and commercialization ecosystem in chemical engineering, extractive metallurgy, and clean-tech processes and technologies. BC Research brings together a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to support clients’ goals to move processes and technologies from bench scale to pilot plant scale.

The tour will be of BCRI’s new piloting and laboratory space in Richmond, BC. Some of BCRI’s signature projects will be on display, which might include work on electrochemical salt splitting, green energy, oil and gas, waste treatment, and new chemical processes. Visitors will get a chance to meet members of the engineering, fabrication, and scientific teams, and learn about BCRI’s capabilities in new technology commercialization.

Britannia Museum Take a trip through history as you experience the life of a miner with this admission and guided tour of the Britannia Mine Museum. This historic copper mine, situated between Whistler and Vancouver, has been in operation since the early 20th century and was once one of the largest copper mines in the British Empire. Get a fascinating look at mining’s evolution over the years, as told by the museum’s collection of interactive exhibits, films and hands-on activities,and take a ride on the mine train as you travel inside a real mine tunnel. The tour will provide Copper Quest – Private guided tour into the underground.  Private Viewing of the Mill Show and Mill Building.  Private Guide escort to points of interest around the site, buildings, exhibits with the opportunity for questions and answers.

Sea to Sky tour – Cancelled and replaced with HorseShoe Bay Visit

NOTIFICATION for Sea to Sky-Britannia Museum tour participants:  Due to an unfortunate incident, the Sea to Sky Gondola is closed to the public.  This portion of the tour will be replaced with a stop in beautiful Horseshoe Bay with charming village and lunch.  Participants will be able to enjoy lunch with a view on the patio overlooking the marina and walk to the village and surrounding areas. 

Advised clothing: Dress in layers as temperatures within the train tunnel at Britannia Mine Museum are consistently 12 ℃ (54 ℉). Comfortable walking shoes are advised. Don’t forget the fixings! Depending on the weather consider bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, gloves and a waterproof outer layer. Any excess items can be stored in the vehicle while you’re exploring.
Accessibility: Moderate mobility is required at each of the tour stops as they include hills, stairs and uneven terrain. There’s a lot to explore. Be prepared to do plenty of walking.
