Abstract Guidelines
Submit online
All abstracts, including those from invited speakers, must be submitted electronically through our online system by following the simple step-by-step instructions provided.
Language
All abstracts must be written in English.
Word-count
Abstracts must not exceed 500 words. Do not include author information, citations, or references in the abstract.
Abstract limit
A lead author/presenter may submit up to 2 abstracts.

Presentation
Payment of fees by the deadline
Payment of fees by the deadline: MetSoc does not require a fee to submit an abstract. However, we count on your professionalism to pay your registration fee by March 15, 2025 if your abstract is accepted. Failure to pay by the stipulated deadline may result in the removal of your oral or poster from the program. Presenters of multiple presentations need only to register once.

Important Information
- Submission of an abstract does not constitute acceptance for presentation nor registration for the conference. Submission of an abstract implies the author accepts the responsibilities listed above.
- No financial assistance is available; presenters are expected to have the necessary financial resources to register and attend.
- No assistance or extensions of payment are provided for issues related to obtaining a Visa. Ensure you can attend in person before submitting your abstract.

Authors of Abstracts Accepted for Oral Presentations
In addition to the above, authors for oral submissions have the following added duties and obligations.
- Paper/Extended Abstract: All oral authors MUST submit a full (approx. 10 pages) paper or extended abstract (2-3 pages) for peer review. Papers are optional for plenary/panel sessions and invited keynotes. We do not accept papers/extended abstracts for poster presentations.
- Publication Copyright: All papers/extended abstracts will be available in the Conference of Metallurgists Proceedings published by Springer (see below for more details). The author is responsible for (1) obtaining consent from their employer (if applicable) to submit an abstract for publication and (2) signing the Springer publication copyright form prior to paper submission. Authors will be free to submit their work after the conference to a publication of their choice, but they must request permission from Springer.
Proceedings published by Springer
The Proceedings will be published in partnership with Springer in electronic format and available as a digital download.

- Individually assigned DOIs for each proceedings article ensure the discoverability of your work.
Your commitment as an author:
- By submitting a paper or extended abstract for review, the author agrees that it will be published in the proceedings if the final document is accepted.
- By submitting an abstract, all authors agree that the publication copyright of conference papers will be held by Springer. Authors will be free to submit their work after the conference to a publication of their choice, but they must request permission from Springer.
- The author assumes full responsibility for obtaining permission to reproduce any copyrighted or otherwise protected data and images in their conference paper.
- The copyright of papers/extended abstracts with contributing authors employed by the National Research Council Canada or other Canadian government organization(s) belongs to the Crown in Right of Canada, that is, to the Government of Canada. The Metallurgy & Materials Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum must be granted the right to reproduce and publish the paper in order to include it in the COM 2024 proceedings.
