Course Description

The course will offer a deep understanding on why projects fail, and the tools required to minimize financial / overall project risk. A detailed model of Operational Readiness will be covered, including how to assess based on the model. And finally, an introduction to Monte Carlo simulations with in-class exercises to understand how to set them up and use the information properly. In addition, we will provide an introduction on some of the more robust and popular approaches to continuous improvement. This includes classic tools associated with Lean and Six Sigma, Control Charts and practical statistics on how to best identify significant factors affecting metallurgical performance.

Carmine Ciriello, Managing Director

Carmine is a highly experienced consultant with 30+ years of experience spanning operations, operational improvement and technical support. Carmine has a Masters in Metallurgical Engineering from McGill University, is a registered professional engineer in Ontario, and is a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt (LSSMB). His career began working directly with top-tier companies such as Falconbridge/Noranda, Inco/Vale and Xstrata globally. Since 2014, Carmine has been a Managing Director at Analyze and Improve, and has been providing teaching, coaching and project consulting across various industries.

 

Hendry Widjaya, Process Improvement Consultant

Hendry is a graduate of Chemical Engineering from McGill University, is a registered professional engineer in Ontario, and is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (LSSBB). Hendry has worked in multiple processing plants including Falconbridge and Vale, specializing in process improvement initiatives. ​Hendry has deep interests in the financial and investing world and is currently pursuing a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Hendry joined Analyze and Improve in January 2018 using his experience to lead various process improvement projects as well as data analytics. He is presently leading Operational Readiness support of a new Indonesian Nickel Smelter. An update of this project and its sustainability efforts will be presented at COM2025.
